The World Wrestling Trials have just come to a startling end and sealed the lineup for the upcoming Final X. Penn State has yet again proved its worth through its classic display of dominance and grit throughout the sessions, despite having some of its best wrestlers out of action.
Penn State has locked over half the lineup for Final X, as the Nittany Lions will have six of their wrestlers battling across the ten weight classes. Three-time national champion Zain Retherford, joined by Luke Lilledahl, Marcus Blaze, Levi Haines, Kyle Dake, and Real Woods, will be showing up at the Prudential Center for a shot to represent America at the world stage.
Elsewhere, Olympic champion Spencer Lee has once again proved his worth by advancing to the June showdown, alongside Oklahoma’s Jax Forrest, who managed to transition between freestyle and folkstyle aggression to prove his mettle by performing on demand. Iowa State’s David Carr also advanced to June after a grueling 9-7 battle against Jayden James at 74 kg and will take on James Green.
To earn the coveted spot on Team USA, wrestlers at the Final X will compete in a best-of-three series format that is designed to ensure that only the most determined and resilient athletes earn the right to represent the nation. The two finalists across all weight classes will face each other and must aim to win two matches out of three to claim the world spot.
