The 2026 outdoor track season has opened to a startling sight, with Noah Lyles and Sha’Carri Richardson already setting ablaze the tracks with their respective feats at the Seiko Golden Grand Prix and Shanghai Diamond League. The reigning Olympic champion, Lyles, captured the 100-meter crown in 9.95 seconds, while Richardson bagged a hard-fought fourth-place finish in a 200-meter field, which has helped both runners make a bold statement at the season opener events.
Both the Seiko Golden Grand Prix and the Shanghai Diamond League have been remarkable feats of athletic display on the tracks and have proved to be a critical proving ground for athletes to make a season-opening statement. Gift Leotlela dominated the tracks at Shanghai with a 9.97 100m win, while the Olympic champion Masai Russell ran to win the epic 100m hurdles, and Shericka Jackson won the 200m race.
Sha’Carri Richardson made a strong pre-race declaration on how she is here to prove her worth by going the full distance and not letting any hurdle put a stop to that. Running alongside fellow Americans McKenzie Long and Anavia Battle, Richardson fought hard to keep up with her competitors throughout the race, ultimately finishing in fourth place, crossing the line in 22.42 seconds, seconds after Jamaica’s Jackson, who finished at number one with a time of 22.07 seconds.
At the Tokyo Grand Prix, Noah Lyles, alongside fellow gold medalists Jordan Anthony and Rai Benjamin, won big at the opens. Noah Lyles whopped the 100m race, bagging first place with a record 9.95-second finish with the final wind recorded at +0.6. He raced alongside Tate Taylor and Jake Odey-Jordan, both of whom were just seconds away from beating Lyles.
Results from the Seiko Golden Grand Prix and Shanghai Diamond League featuring Noah Lyles and Sha’Carri Richardson.
