Joscelyn Roberson’s Dad Expresses Frustration Over Her 9.95s, Questioning NCAA Record Despite Arkansas’ Regional Finals Run

Joscelyn Roberson’s father, Jefferey Roberson, expressed frustration over her 9.95s, demanding a 10. The Arkansas gymnast recently delivered a powerful performance in the regional finals.

Joscelyn was last seen on the mat on April 2, during the NCAA Regionals, where she produced a stunning performance. She was one of the two gymnasts from Arkansas to score a 9.950 on beam at regionals, and her performance brought the first regional beam crown for the team since 2009. Adding to this, she also registered a 9.925 on floor, which was her second title of the day.

She claimed a score of 39.425 points in the all-around event, finishing in fourth place overall. The Arkansas gymnastics team scored 197.175 to secure a spot in Sunday’s regional final. Despite Joscelyn’s impressive run, her father expressed frustration over 9.950, asking for 10.00 for his daughter. He wrote on social media:

“At this point I’m starting to wonder what the NCAA record for 9.95’s is🤦🏼‍♂️ #ITSA10 #ITSBEENA10ALLYEAR.”

Joscelyn Roberson opened the season with a strong start on January 10, when her team faced Minnesota. She scored a stellar 9.950 on balance beam and won. Before entering the 2026 season, Roberson wrapped up her 2025 season after competing at the World Gymnastics Championships.

Joscelyn Roberson made her feelings known about overcoming anxiety on vault at the 2025 World Gymnastics Championships

The 2025 World Gymnastics Championships took place in October in Jakarta, Indonesia, where she produced an impressive performance in the vault exercise and earned a bronze medal for her team. After delivering her second vault, she posted a combined score of 13.983, finishing in third place.

Following her performance, she sat for a conversation with GymNicetics’ Joy, where she opened up about battling anxiety. Commenting on how she felt while competing in the 2025 championships, she said:

“I was like, I started freaking out of that, because I literally looked at him, and I’m like, ‘I’m not OK. Like, this is not gonna be good. And he was like, you’re OK. Just breathe. Just breathe. Because, like, all of this was for me. Because in qualifications, he told me he was like, ‘It’s not worth it. Let’s just go home, get better.’ And I was like, ‘No, I have to try like that. I know I can make this, like I have to try,'” said Joscelyn Roberson.

“And so when I get to the final, and I’m like freaking out because like I don’t, it’s just like all the emotions of 2023 came rushing back, like the fast motion, like the craziness. It was just a lot for me mentally, and I knew it was going to be, but it’s just so hard,” she added.

“Like, it’s going to hit you, but you don’t know when. And of course it’s going to hit me right before I’m supposed to go up and vault. And I’m like, I can’t do this. And he’s like, no, no, calm down. You’re OK. You warmed them up, they’re fine. You’re going to be OK. And I was like, OK, OK. So then I like took a deep breath and I was like, you know what? We’re going to use all these nerves and anxiety, and we’re going to use it to vault,” she concluded.
