Jordan Lucas Opens Up After Charlie Brande Apologizes for Controversial ‘Popped’ Remark About the CSUN Star

Jordan Lucas made his feelings known about Charlie Brande apologizing for making a controversial remark on him during his volleyball match on April 9. He opened up about the endless support he received after the controversy.

Lucas’ team, CSUN Matadors men’s volleyball competed against UC Irvine Anteaters on April 9, where the entire controversy took place.

During the match, the player raised his finger, signalling No. 1 during the match, celebrating his performance. Following this, the volleyball legend Brande opined about the celebration.

“I’m amazed Jordan Lucas hasn’t been popped by somebody. The antics he’s making under the net, it’s very distasteful,” Brande said.

After making this remark, he received a lot of backlash from volleyball fans, which led to him issuing an apology. He said that he regretted his words and would never promote violence:

“I’d like to publicly apologize for my comment on the UC IRVINE VS CSUN Broadcast, Thursday, April 9. Most importantly, I apologize to Jordan, I wholeheartedly regret my comment towards him. I take full accountability for my comment and the damage it may have caused. Violence should never be acceptable or tolerated.”

Lucas opened up about the controversy after Brande’s apology and said:

“The support has been amazing. I don’t know what other word could describe it. People rallying behind something that isn’t talked about enough in athletics, college, amateur or pro — being LGBT. It’s been a little overwhelming, but overall it’s been very positive. I’m happy to have people backing me.”

What Did Jordan Lucas Say About Controversial Comment?

Shortly after Charlie Brande took a dig at the volleyball player, Jordan Lucas sat for an interview, where he was asked about the comments passed by Brande during the broadcast. Stating that he saw the video; however, he had no comment. He appreciated Brande for realizing his mistake and issuing an apology for the same:

“I obviously saw it … I don’t really have a comment on it. I appreciate that you have the ability to apologize and understand what you did was wrong, but don’t feel like UC Irvine men’s volleyball had to post it, they had to spread the word. I think it’s more if it was personalized in a way … but for me, yeah, that’s about it that I have for that.”

Jordan Lucas is now scheduled to compete for his team against Hawai’i on April 17 at Bankoh Arena at Stan Sheriff Center.
