Jordan Chiles Reacts To Kailin Chio Taking Over Her No. 1 Spot Amid NCAA Gymnastics 2026 Season

Jordan Chiles reigned as the No. 1 all-around gymnast at the 2026 NCAA gymnastics championships since the beginning of the event. Her streak has now been broken by LSU’s Kailin Chio, who has taken over the top spot. Reacting to this, the Olympian dropped a sweet comment, congratulating her opponent.

In the first eight weeks of the NCAA championships, Chiles held the No. 1 position for all-arounder in the nation. However, Chio dethroned the Olympian after her latest outing on March 1 against Arizona. During this clash, the Tigers claimed a win, registering a score of 198.200 at the Raising Cane’s River Center.

Chio dominated the showdown, posting a perfect score, marking her fourth meet with a perfect 10 and third consecutive on beam. Her first two perfect scores on beam were against No. 3 Alabama and No. 1 Oklahoma. With the performance, she ended the week by becoming the new No. 1 all-arounder in the nation with a 39.725 national qualifying score, surpassing Chiles’ 39.710.

The feat garnered Chile’s attention, who reposted Gymnastics Now’s post on her Instagram story, congratulating the LSU gymnast for the achievement. She wrote:

Even though Chiles is no longer the No. 1 all-arounder, she still remains No. 1 in the floor exercise. Her latest appearance on the mat was on February 27 during UCLA’s clash against Maryland. With this win, the Bruins won the regular season Big Ten title.

Jordan Chiles made her feelings known about winning the Big Ten regular season title

The UCLA Bruins nabbed the Big Ten regular season title after dominating the Big Four Quad meet. They bested Iowa, Ohio State, and Maryland at Pauley Pavilion to claim the title. Following the win, Jordan Chiles and her teammate, Ciena Alipio, sat for a post-meet press conference, where they weighed in on the team’s performance.

Exuding pride in her team’s performance, Chile said that they are individually aware of what they need to do on the mat. Calling themselves competitive, she said: (0:58 onwards)

“I would say kind of, you know, going off of that is just really paying attention to what we do each and every event. I think the biggest thing is that we all know individually what we have to do. And we’re a very competitive team. I mean, obviously, yes, did today turn out not as what we thought 100%. But, you know, that just makes us understand that not everything has to be perfect. We don’t need to be perfect in the moment. We just have to continue to hit and do what we need to do. So, I’m very proud of this team,” said Jordan Chiles.
She further went on to reveal that they competed while preparing for their midterms and praised the team for doing the student-athlete job precisely.
“I’m very proud of the fight, especially, you know, we had midterms, we have all these things that are happening, and definitely the student athlete showed this week, and I’m very, very proud of each and every one, especially, you know, having one of our teammates out and another one stepping in and really allowing us to, you know, put up a good score. So everything is for a fight, and we lean on each other for a reason.”

Jordan Chiles and her team, the UCLA Bruins, will next be seen on the mat on March 7, competing against Stanford.
