Jax Forrest recently opened up about his loss at the US Open wrestling tournament and cited it as just another milestone toward his major wrestling goals, which are beyond small losses. He spoke about being resilient in a year marked with turbulent shifts and championship victories, which really took a toll on someone with elite prospects.
The US Open Senior Men’s wrestling witnessed electrifying mat actions that produced startling moments and upsets, and Forrest’s loss to Ben Davino marked one such moment. Forrest had earlier beaten Davino to bag the NCAA title back in March; however, Davino flipped the script in their 61kg US Open final and beat the reigning champion in an 8–4 win.
Reflecting on his third-place finish, Forrest made it clear that his love for wrestling transcends beyond a single podium result, while highlighting his passion for wrestling amid a roller-coaster transitional year.
“Good, tough tournament, but I love wrestling, and that’s not going to change from one match or one tournament, so I’m just going to go enjoy the rest of my time here and get better now,” said Forrest.
He also highlighted how unique his transitional year has been, moving from one program to another, but remained grounded by noting that he stayed in the groove of the wrestling mindset despite a string of relocations.
Jax Forrest Talks About His Support System
Jax Forrest has been hailed as college wrestling’s most elite prodigy by many legends, such as Lee Kemp. However, Forrest has credited his dominant rise to his high school and college coaches, his family, friends, and his wrestling sparring partners.
“I have the best coaches, I have the best guys, my guys are my core, my Oklahoma State guys, guys coming in, my family, I’m so blessed, and that’s what makes a hard time like this taking a loss, makes it very easy,” he said.
He also spoke about the need to trust his coaches and, more importantly, trust himself more as he gears up for his upcoming wrestling endeavors. By trusting the technical coaching laid out by David Taylor, Forrest believes that he can leverage it further to the right amount of consistency needed to dominate his upcoming events.
