NCAA champion Jax Forrest recently reacted to Mijain Lopez’s new coaching gig for the Chinese wrestling team. Lopez has been recruited as a foreign coach for the national Greco-Roman team of China.
Lopez has recently joined the Chinese Greco-Roman wrestling team as a coach and was seen posing for a group photo alongside the wrestling team, which included his mentor, Raul Diaz. Lopez was named the United World Wrestling (UWW) ambassador in June 2025, representing sports globally, and he has since made multiple rounds around the world, mentoring young athletes alongside Diaz.
With many from the wrestling world reacting to the news in surprise, the current national champion, Jax Forrest, let his feelings be known publicly. He took to his social media and reacted to a pictorial news highlighting Mijian Lopez’s China move and commented:
“Gotta be the most random thing I’ve seen in a while.”
Other fans had similar comments, praising the former gold medalist, while some have also started predicting multiple gold medals now emerging from China.
Back in 2008, Lopez bagged his first Olympic gold in Beijing, China, at 120 kg, setting an unprecedented stage for the world of Greco-Roman.

Mijian Lopez bagged his fifth Olympic gold medal at the 2024 Olympics, where he bid farewell to the wrestling mat as a competitor. With this win, the Cuban legend became the first ever Greco-Roman wrestler in history to win five consecutive golds.
After his fifth win, Lopez removed his shoes and put them in the center of the mat as a symbolic gesture for the world of wrestling.
Lopez had given a statement in the aftermath of his retirement about how difficult it is to let go of a sport that he started at a very young age, and also highlighted how his current activities have put him among young talents who let him give back to the sport.
He also mentioned how enduring the moment of finally conquering the long-time goal of winning the fifth gold was.
