Nebraska Huskers volleyball star Harper Murray has recently hinted at possibly trying her hand at beach volleyball after the Husker star had a brief game session with her former teammate, Ally Batenhorst, during a fun outing. Murray’s cheery take on her change comes during the classic transitional phase of women’s volleyball players, where several indoor athletes slowly transition over to beach for increased opportunities on the AVP Tour.
The Huskers have been on a roll since their undefeated spring break season, where Murray continued to shine bright as a dominant force. Entering her fourth season as a senior, Harper Murray has proved her mettle through several key matchups where the Ann Arbor native has been consistent with high-impact kills on court and also shone as a leader during critical moments.
Recently, Murray was seen on an outing with former volleyball star Ally Batenhorst in a video titled “Take your kid to work day,” where the two strolled through the streets of California and stopped by Redondo Beach for a quick volleyball session. During the game, Murray took a back seat and saw her former teammate Batenhorst do her classic beach throws and commented on her prowess.
“it’s so fun to be there and see the difference between beach and indoor, and with Ally, seeing her do it is so fun. Ally’s done so well, and it’s so cool to see cuz I know she’s worked hard for so long, I’m so proud of you,” said Murray.
Fans took the video with great enthusiasm and commented on Murray’s future, suggesting that she try her hand at pro beach volleyball, to which Murray reacted by saying, “Maybe I should.”
Murray has held previous records on the beach with an 18-9 overall record, including 7-7 with Laney Choboy and 6-0 with Merritt Beason. Her recent stint at the beach strongly hints at a professional pivot to a full-time beach career, however, Murray hasn’t made any official confirmation and currently has her eyes on the upcoming first-ever Big Ten Volleyball Tournament, scheduled to be held in November.
Harper Murray Talks About Learning A Whole Lot from her Spring Season
The Huskers have had a spring to remember after their towering victory at Chardon. Harper Murray was one of the leading players who led the Huskers to win big and spoke about learning to adjust to playing with different lineups as the team went through several experimental stints.
“There were a lot of changes, so it was nice to adjust to it and to learn how to work through that with the team because we are not used to some of the things that we did this year, so I feel like I got a lot out of it this year,” she said (1:01).
Murray will be next seen playing a series of home and away matches for the Huskers to advance to the November Big Ten Tournament.
