Nebraska Volleyball’s Harper Murray, Maisie Boesiger, and others recently reacted to their former teammate Ally Batenhorst winning her first medal with Sarah Hughes at a Beach Volleyball Pro Event. After competing for the Big Red team from 2021 to 2023, Batenhorst transferred to USC for her graduate season and later transitioned to beach volleyball.
Recently, she competed at the 2026 FIVB Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour Challenge, held at the KIIT–KISS Athletics Stadium in Bhubaneswar, India, from March 4 to 8, 2026. In a third-place match against fellow Americans Natalie Myszkowski and Carly Kan, Batenhorst and Sara Hughes showed their dominance, winning 2-1. Following the victory, she expressed her joy through an Instagram post and wrote:
“First overseas tourney ✅ #india”
Ally Batenhorst won her first pro beach volleyball title
Batenhorst’s former teammates from Nebraska Volleyball congratulated the pair on their first win together, with Maisie Boesiger simply penning,
“👏👏👏👏 ”
“OMG AMAZING❤️❤️❤️❤️,” Boesiger added.

After concluding her collegiate career, Batenhorst signed her first professional contract with the Omaha Supernovas in December 2024. However, within a year of turning professional, she announced a major career transition, from volleyball to beach volleyball.
In July 2025, she announced her partnership with world champion Sara Hughes after the latter’s previous teammate, Kelly Cheng, parted ways. Although Batenhorst hadn’t played beach volleyball professionally, she played both indoor and beach volleyball at the University of Nebraska.
Former Nebraska Volleyball Player Ally Batenhorst Draws Difference Between Competing In Indoor And Beach Volleyball
In a recent media interview, Ally Batenhorst drew the differences in competing in indoor and beach volleyball competitions. She highlighted that the two sports are completely different from each other, including the wind effect and outdoor surroundings. Batenhorst further added that it takes time to learn and adjust to small differences in beach volleyball.
“I would say it’s like a completely different sport. You have to learn little things like wind, and you’re outside, and it’s only two of you, so little things like that are an adjustment for sure. But at the end of the day, it’s volleyball,” Batenhorst said. “Right away the communication was so easy. It’s hard to find that right away within a beach volleyball partnership.”
Batenhorst and Hughes have fixed their sights on earning a spot at the 2028 LA Games.
