David Taylor Strikes Again as Oklahoma State Lands Stanford National Qualifier Lorenzo Norman and More Wrestling Transfer News

The wrestling transfer portal continues its full-swing run, and this time, David Taylor from the Oklahoma Cowboys has bagged the national qualifier Lorenzo Norman from Stanford, which makes it the Cardinal’s first portal out since its campaign debut of retention began in April. Caden Smith from the Sooners has also changed hands and is now part of the Florida roster.

The transfer portal continues its epic run of shifts and exits, where universities and athletes clash and make and break ties, all to secure a reasonable future from both the academic and athletic standpoints. Oklahoma, the Cowboys, and the Sooners have seen their fair share of exits and entries, alongside Florida, which has reshaped the landscape of wrestling within the boundaries of collegiate sports.

Cowboy’s wrestling coach David Taylor has bagged a second talent after adding Bennett Berge a few weeks earlier. This time, it’s a shocker from Stanford, the 2025 NCAA qualifier, 174 lbs, Lorenzo Norman, who spent his last three seasons with the Cardinal and ended the 2024-25 season with a 21-6 record and seven wins against top-ranked opponents.

Elsewhere, another notable roster move includes the 125-pounder Caden Smith’s entry to the NAIA New College of Florida. Smith spent his sophomore year at Sacred Heart University. Smith spent his past season developing his folkstyle prowess and now looks ahead to making a statement in the Sunshine State.

Dru Ayala from Iowa has also entered the transfer portal and is now part of the Cyclones lineup.

Oklahoma’s David Taylor Talks About the Cowboys’ Unique Dual Meet Events

David Taylor has been one of the most renowned coaches and wrestlers of all time, and under his belt, the Cowboys have nurtured great talent and bagged impressive title wins through many seasons. Central to his coaching foundation is developing great talents but also putting on great shows for the viewers of wrestling, and one way the Cowboys have been doing it is through their unique dual-meet wrestling events that turn college wrestling into theater-like spectacles.

    Speaking about it, Taylor said:

“A dual meet could be boring, but our dual meets are like an event; we try to take different elements of what we saw at the Oklahoma City Thunder games and what we’ve seen at the UFC events, and we try to bring those elements into our duals, and it’s like a rock show (7:25).”

David Taylor has already seen great success in coaching, with his prodigies like Jax Forrest, Sergio Vega, and many more making it big and currently eyeing international exposure.
