The senior wrestling world team trials are here, and the Oklahoma Cowboys have sent in a promising squad consisting of Jax Forrest, Cameron Amine, and Landon Robideau. Cowboys wrestling coach David Taylor gave a glimpse into his analytical viewpoint on the trio as they head to the trials to secure a spot in the Final X.
The senior World Team trials are just looming around the corner, with the preliminary round hours away from its premiere at the Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center. The men’s division will see action across five weight classes, each comprising notable wrestlers who have already excelled in some of the major national events of their country. Despite facing setbacks during the US Open, Jax Forrest is determined to make a statement, alongside his partners.
Coming in at 61 kg, Jax Forrest is set to appear for the first time in a major contest since his defeat at the US Open this past April. Forrest looks to avenge the loss through these trials that will propel him to Final X. Talking about his chances, Coach Taylor highlighted Forrest’s worthiness and grit in competing and spoke about the challenges of balancing freestyle and folkstyle.
“So Jack’s wrestling with the U.S. Open. You know, coming off of, you know, last year we made a World Team. It’s a little different style. They’ve got to wrestle in folk style and freestyle. It’s not one and the same for him,” said Taylor.
Forrest echoed his coach’s remarks and said:
“I can’t wrestle folk style and freestyle the same. You know, I’m too crazy in folk style, you know, rolling on your back, exposure, so many little things. that I’ve got to switch it up to be the best in both, you know, it’s like a challenge for me. And I love challenges,” said Forrest.
David Taylor then spoke about the high-caliber expertise that Landon Robideau is expected to bring in after his U-20 nationals win in Las Vegas.
“He looked really good And I think now it’s time for him to step up into the senior-level competition and really believe Landon is ready for it. I think he’s got the skill set, the strength to compete,” said Taylor.
Robideau also made his mind clear on wanting to win the senior world title and, despite having no experience on this level, has shown youthful optimism in winning against any opponent put in front of him.
Cameron Amine is also set to enter the tournament at 74 kg after his dominant victory over David Carr during the U.S. Open. Taylor and Amine both showed enormous optimism ahead of the trials, where Taylor highlighted Amine’s ability to get back up to conquer when needed. Taylor emphasized the need of focusing on just one match at a time for Amine that could fetch him a win.
Cameron Amine Talks About Jax Forrest and Landon Robideau Bringing the Best Out of Him
Jax Forrest, Cameron Amine, and Landon Robideau are headed to Kentucky to book a place at the Final X to make it to Team USA. As preparations are in full swing, Amine spoke about the importance of having good mat partners and how Forrest and Robideau push him beyond the limits every day, which helps in building up his game plan ahead of the bout.
“We’re going to World Team Trials, so it’s going to be fun. I get to scrap with my boys, Jax and Landon, and they’re pushing me every day as I get to push them throughout the college season. So doing that, that’s really helped me jump levels,” said Amine.
The world team trials are scheduled for May 14-15 at the Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center in Louisville, Kentucky, and will feature some of the top national wrestlers in the bracket.
