World champion wrestler Bo Bassett has claimed that Merab Dvalishvili refused to face him after Bassett offered to step in following Henry Cejudo’s withdrawal at the Real American Freestyle 08. Cejudo, who was scheduled to wrestle Dvalishvili, met with a heel injury, forcing him out of the matchup.
The RAF 08 event, scheduled at the Liacouras Center in Philadelphia, featuring startling action across all weight classes. The original main event bout scheduled was Merab Dvalishvili vs. Henry Cejudo, which, however, following Cejudo’s injury, flipped to Arman Tsarukyan vs. Urijah Faber.
Cejudo and Dvalishvili were scheduled to face off, and they even did a pre-fight conference where words were exchanged, and things were ready to blow up. However, just hours before the bout, Cejudo announced an unfortunate injury that prevented him from stepping on the mat, as mentioned by RAF co-founder Chad Bronstein.
Champion cadet wrestler Bo Bassett, however, took to his social media and offered to replace Cejudo for a piece of the RAF action, however got rejected as soon as he reached out to Dvalishvili.
“I tried, I came out of our training camp and saw the news. Called RAF Wrestling, Izzy and Chad. Philly is 4 hours away. Merab “The Machine” Dvalishvili said no. It would have been fun,” said Basset.
Many sources have suggested that Merab Dvalishvili, who is first an MMA artist, had only committed towards one opponent after many speculations, and that prompted him to turn down Basset’s offer that came at very short notice.
Merab Dvalishvili wishes Henry Cejudo a Speedy Recovery
MMA star Merab Dvalishvili was scheduled to compete in a wrestling bout against Henry Cejudo, which was called off at the last minute after Cejudo reported an injury. During an interview, Dvalishvili wished the former MMA artist a speedy recovery and showed optimism in meeting the freestyle prodigy in the future.
I wish him speedy recovery, unfortunately, I really wanted to compete against Henry Cejudo, but, this is what it is, but, thank you so much RAF, and they said they wanted to come to Georgia so hopefully we will have an RAF wrestling in Georgia this summer and I would love to compete against Henry Cejudo and hopefully you will be ready soon,” said Dvalishvili.
He also mentioned how he is ready to face Cejudo in either discipline, wrestling or MMA, and vowed to make a comeback soon.
