Nebraska Cornhuskers 3X Big Ten Setter of the Year, Bergen Reilly, recently admitted that her team, despite its elite stance, fell short in delivering and getting the national prize in the last three seasons.
The Cornhuskers have made a remarkable place for themselves within the volleyball federation and ploughed through every hardship to make it big in the regional tournaments, including the Big Ten Conference. Reilly’s comments, however, point to their ultimate, unrealized goal of winning the national championships.
During an interview, Reilly spoke about team spirit and how every team member is crucially marked this time to remain on the same page, highlighting how their strong bond will back her words at the end of the day.
“We all know that we haven’t finished like we wanted to in the last three years, so we’ve talked a lot about this, making sure we’re all on the same page, making sure we have no regrets going out this year, and we have such a great bond, us four,” she said.
She specifically mentioned her teammates Harper Murray, Andi Jackson, and Laney Choboy being the closest to her, and that they will make the impact that will be remembered for ages.
Bergen Reilly Talks about Expectations for Herself for the Upcoming Spring Match
Bergen Reilly said she has set her own expectations to stand out, not just as a great athlete but as a great person who would elevate her profile beyond volleyball. During an interview, Reilly spoke about wanting to be at the forefront of leadership, highlighting how being the youngest player last season and then a captain has given her different perspectives on how to command and help her teammates.
“I’m just really trying to work on the leadership setting more being the captian last year but, now am the oldest one on the team, and usually in the club I played at, but in High school I started in eight grade, so I’ve always kinda been the younger one on the team, so being the oldest is defeinetly an adjustment, so just making sure that I can be there in anyway for the younger girls, whether thats’ off the court or on the court,” she said (4:40).
She also spoke on how she is crucially focused on getting her fundamentals back in check and vowed to give a towering performance.
The Cornhuskers are at loggerheads this season with not only their rival teams but also with the general expectations of either a championship or bust. They will be next seen competing against Iowa State on Saturday.
