Turkish volleyball stars Melissa Vargas and Zehra Gunes had an awkward moment during the Vodafone Sultanlar Ligi match. The duo had recently unfollowed each other on social media, but crossed paths on the field in a way that left both players visibly uncomfortable.
Vargas for Fenerbahce Medicana and Gunes for VakifBank are both considered powerhouse players and are giving it their all as the Sultans League progresses. They have been the best of buddies within the Turkish volleyball community. However, recently, Vargas had unfollowed Gunes on social media, following a rumored off-field dispute that set off Medicana’s volleyball star. Gunes, too, returned the gesture with an unfollow.
During a recent Ligi match, the two crossed paths multiple times, and each time they did, a silent air of awkwardness brushed through. At one moment, the two stood across the net, but avoided eye contact, which led to awkward body gestures, leaving everyone aghast.
Fans online reacted to the whole ordeal with amusement and speculation on what might have gone wrong, considering the two remained the best of partners publicly for a very long time.
However, the two maintained their professional stance and displayed composure throughout the match.
