Alysha Newman can’t hold back as she delivers a bold response to her 20-month whereabouts-failures ban

Olympic track and field star Alysha Newman has pushed back against the 20-month ban by the Athletics Integrity Unit. She has asserted that practically nothing in this world can stop her from pursuing her competitive endeavors, and has vowed to make a startling comeback.

The defiance stems from the AIU sanctioning Newman for her whereabouts failures, specifically in relation to the runner’s failure to attend three drug tests.

The AIU recently put a sanction on the Olympic medalist for failing to appear for an unannounced doping test in February 2025, as well as for two additional tests in August. As per the anti-doping code, such whereabouts failures can result in a serious violation, despite an athlete having never tested positive for substance use.

Athletes are required to provide their whereabouts details by doing a quarterly filing of their general schedule and must make themselves available for unannounced testing, all of which was not honored by Newman.

Alysha Newman has, however, defied the move with her bold hit back at the committee via her social media posts, where she can be casually seen engaging in her daily routines while posting photos of her glory days on track and writing statements that clearly indicate how she remains unaffected by the fan.

“You can bind up my leg, but not even Zeus has the power to break my freedom of choice,” wrote Newman.

Many fans also stood by the champion’s defiant stance and commended her for treating the circumstance with a business-as-usual approach.

Newman has also denied any wrongdoing and strictly rejected the claims of having used any illegal substance. She highlighted her integrity to the sports community by mentioning how she has been part of the testing game since the age of 16, and how some of her whereabouts failures, specifically the third one, were a result of an important television commitment, which she couldn’t abandon.

The ban will remain in effect until August 2027, a 20-month ban, which is shorter than the standard two-year halt that became possible after the AIU noted Newman ending her competitive career.

Alysha Newman Talks About The Impact of Public Perception of Her Looks

Alysha Newman became the first woman from Canada to win a bronze at the Olympics in women’s pole vault. Since that victory, media outlets and fans alike have paid great interest in Newman’s physical looks, which frequently collided with her athletic prowess, which often got overshadowed due to the media’s perception of her looks.

During an interview, Newman spoke about the obsession of the world with her looks, highlighting how she chooses to celebrate it rather than see it as a barrier towards her athletic persona, which itself is built on her physical capabilities on the pole, which is made possible by having a healthy, competitive body.

“I don’t think I’m ever surprised by that, because what we do is physical. Being an athlete, you are muscular, and I feel like it becomes your identity, and a lot of people think that it’s a negative thing, but I’m an Olympic medalist because I have this, so that’s what I always try to focus on,” she said (1:22).

She also shed light on how her body has remained the best high-performance tool in her arsenal and vowed to remain the way she is.
