Alysa Liu has been winning hearts since day 1 at the 2026 Winter Olympics. On some days, it has been her impressive performances, and now it is her love for anime. After the gold medal, she has now gone viral for her adorable Pochita tissue box.
Liu recently secured a historical win at Milano-Cortina, becoming the first American in 24 years to win a gold medal in the figure skating event. She delivered a clean and commanding performance on February 19, earning an overall score of 226.79 points.
She made headlines for this victory, and the videos of her performance were making the rounds all over the internet. Shortly after this, she again went viral, and this time it was for her love for anime and a tissue box. During the Games, she was spotted carrying a ‘Chainsaw Man’ Pochita plushie, which also doubles as a tissue box.
The skater received the plushie as a gift from a Japanese fan. They gifted her the plush during her appearance at the Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final in Nagoya in December last year.
Apart from the free skate, Liu also competed in the team event, where she played a crucial role in making her team clinch gold.
Alysa Liu on About Winning a Gold Medal at the 2026 Winter Olympics
Alysa Liu sat for a post-skate conversation, where she weighed in on her performance at the 2026 Winter Olympics. The American retired at the young age of 16 after competing in the 2022 Olympics, where she earned the sixth position. However, after four years, she got the urge to return to the ice, and she did it beautifully.
Opening up about delivering a stellar performance after making a comeback to the Olympic stage, she said:
“Being able to do it my way on the big stage like this has been my dream, and I got to do it in my short, I got to do it in the team event, and I got to do it tonight for the free skate, and I’m going to do it again for the Olympic Gala, so I don’t know, I’m just like over the moon. I’m the luckiest girl ever, and yeah, I’m really grateful,” said Alysa Liu.
Making her feelings known about the element of joy in her performance, she further added:
“I guess the thing is I love what I like to share about myself is like my story and my art, my creative process, and I guess messing up doesn’t take away from that. It’s still something. It’s still a story, you know, a bad story is still a story, and I think that’s beautiful, so there’s no way to lose.”
Alysa Liu recently received a sweet comment from American singer Selena Gomez for her gold medal triumph at the 2026 Winter Olympics.
