After playing a significant role in helping her team win gold in Milan, she delivered an impressive performance in the free skate final on Thursday, February 19.

Following a clean skate with almost no errors in a golden dress, the American clinched the gold medal, recording 226.79 points overall. She became the first American in 24 years to win a gold medal in this category. Her comeback story and her skate charmed several hearts, including Raisman’s.

The former gymnast, who has proved herself on the Olympic stage several times, penned a message for Liu, stating that she will never forget watching her compete. Calling herself the skater’s biggest fan, Raisman wrote on her Instagram story:

“@alysaxliu you healed a part of me last night🥹 I am feeling a sense of calm today. I will never forget watching you. Your story is a gift. Your confidence to trust yourself & listen to what feels right for YOU is something that has inspired me more than I can express. I am in awe of your ability to advocate for what works for you & what does not. Your joy and freedom out there shows us that when one is empowered to authentically be themselves they are unstoppable. From your biggest fan. Aly🤍”
