Former Nebraska volleyball player Ally Batenhorst joked about the reason she transitioned from indoor to beach volleyball. Batenhorst moved to beach volleyball after competing for the Huskers in college and the Omaha Supernovas as a professional.
She represented Nebraska for three years from 2021 to 2023. The hitter then transferred to USC for her graduate season, where she played 32 matches and recorded 1,319 kills to earn fourth place in the Big Ten. In the same year, she also earned the AVCA All-America Honorable mention, AVCA All-Pacific Region Team, and the Big Ten All-Conference First Team honors. A year later, she signed her first professional contract with the Omaha Supernovas on December 11, 2024.
Batenhorst was recently seen posing for a Nike photoshoot. She wore a bright orange swimsuit and joked that she transitioned to beach volleyball because it lets her wear swimsuits year-round.
“One of the reasons I traded indoor volleyball for beach,” she wrote. “It’s the fact that I can wear swimsuits in January,” Batenhorst added.

In July 2025, Batenhorst announced a major career update, leaving the Pro Volleyball Federation team to pursue beach volleyball.
Former Nebraska Volleyball Player Ally Batenhorst Opens Up About The Differences In Indoor And Outdoor Volleyball
Former Nebraska volleyball player Ally Batenhorst once opened up about the differences between indoor and beach volleyball, stating that although a few aspects of the surroundings are contrasting, the game remains the same at the end. Having gained experience from both editions, she highlighted the differences, including the number of players and the wind.
“I would say it’s like a completely different sport,” Batenhorst said. “You have to learn little things like wind and you’re outside and it’s only two of you, so little things like that are an adjustment for sure. But at the end of the day, it’s volleyball.”
Ally Batenhorst has joined hands with world champion Sara Hughes in pursuit of the 2028 LA Olympics.
