Simone Biles has recently responded to a concerned fan who asked about her health scare that the gymnast said almost took her life. Last week, the Olympian shared a health update on her social media, describing the nature of her medical emergency as a call to death. Fans quickly took to social media to check on the gymnast and have received sporadic updates from Biles.
Earlier this month, Simone Biles was reportedly taken to an emergency unit following repeated complaints of an undisclosed medical issue. Her diagnosis has also been kept confidential for now, but the gymnast did post pictures of her time at the hospital that showed her wrist strapped with medical bands.
The Olympian was bedridden for a long while and had described the ordeal as the most terrifying one. Biles said that the incident “almost took her life.” Taking to her social media, Biles posted a story and wrote:
“I’m not one to normally share things like this because I value privacy in today’s age. But almost dying wasn’t on my bingo card earlier this week.”
Biles has, however, gotten off the bed and decided to travel to Belize with her husband and shared her excitement via Instagram, where she made a video talking about holding dual citizenship in the Central American country and the United States while getting ready for her trip.
Many flooded her comment section with well-wishes and excitement. However, a few have also raised concerns regarding her medical fallout earlier this month. One fan directly questioned Biles’ silence on her health update:
Never got the update on near death experience 😕
Biles responded, saying:
@jamldr25 not ready to talk about it just yet ❤️🩹
Biles has been a strong advocate for physical and mental health, and it remains to be seen when the Olympian decides to disclose the details of her harrowing medical experience to the world.
Simone Biles Talks About Therapy Adding to Her Strength
Simone Biles has become one of the most well-known voices advocating for positive mental health. During an interview, she spoke about the positive effects of therapy that have added more strength to her overall persona than she could have ever imagined:
“Therapy, I think – Before I was kinda like pushing down my trauma and now I’ve learned to like speak on it and kind of release that.”
Biles then spoke about feeling stronger with therapy:
“I think we used to think of therapy as a weakness, and now I think of it as a strength.”
Biles had previously made headlines at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics due to her mental health challenges that led her to withdraw from many notable events.
