David Njoku, a first-round pick by the Cleveland Browns in the 2017 NFL Draft, has spent his entire career so far with the same team. He has appeared in 118 total games, while he started in 88 of them.
During his Cleveland tenure, Njoku has compiled 384 receptions for 4062 yards and 34 touchdowns. He made the Pro Bowl in 2023, which is considered to be his best season so far.
Njoku is soon going to become a free agent. His contract with the Cleveland Browns will be void on March 12. There have been some rumors about his departure from Cleveland and interest in finding another home.
These are no longer speculations as he recently announced that he will be leaving soon. Ahead of his free agency, Njoku made a post on Instagram, thanking Cleveland and everyone who has played a role in his journey.
“Cleveland, first off I love you. These 9 years have been a beautiful journey. I’m am so grateful for all the memories we shared together. Thank you to The Haslams, Andrew Berry and the whole browns organization for everything!!” he wrote.
“All my teammates I shared the battle with I’m so grateful for you guys. The time for me to find a new home has come and all I can think of is just the gratefulness in my heart. The city of Cleveland will forever be home,” he added.
Fans showed a lot of love to Njoku in response to his post. Some shed a tear while others wished him well for the next chapter of his career. It’s unclear what his next destination would be, but Njoku has made it clear that he will no longer be a part of the Cleveland Browns organization.
Where Will David Njoku Go?
It’s tough to point to one team as of now. Njoku is a very capable tight end. He is 29 years old right now, but he’ll turn 30 before the next season starts. Still, there’s a lot of untapped potential left in him.
Like every NFL athlete, he might also look for a team with a real chance to make it to the Super Bowl. There’s one team in particular that we can point to right now, and it’d make a lot of sense, at least theoretically.
In January 2026, the Browns hired Todd Monken as their new head coach. Kevin Stefanski, who was with the team since 2020, was fired after another disappointing season. Stefanski is now the head coach of the Atlanta Falcons. They could be on his radar.
