One of the biggest mysteries in the NFL right now concerns a former player named Sam Beal, who used to be a cornerback for the New York Giants. He has been missing for over seven months now, and his sister, Essence Zhane, has been demanding answers and has been asking for help from the public.
“We’ve done everything we could on our end to piece things together and at this point we’re in desperate need of support on all ends,” she said. “I’m not here to answer a bunch of why’s and how’s I just need this to land in the right direction to gain some form of answers or closure.”
Beal started playing in the NFL in 2018, being selected by the New York Giants in the third round of that year’s supplemental draft. He was with the team for three years but only played in nine games throughout.
He eventually opted out in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic, but returned for the 2021 season before being waived by the team that same year, recording 27 tackles and one safety in his career.
Originally drafted out of Western Michigan, Sam Beal had a rocky life off the field, as he has been in trouble with the law during his time with the Giants. In June 2020, he was arrested because of two gun-related charges and pleaded guilty to both of them. He was arrested during a traffic stop where authorities found that he had a concealed weapon and some marijuana.
What Authorities Know About Sam Beal’s Disappearance
He was last seen on July 13, 2025, with authorities noting that he was dropping off his girlfriend at her family’s house and was heading to Virginia Beach when he went missing. The National Missing and Unidentified Persons System database noted that the former NFL player “did not bring anything with him aside from the clothes he was wearing, a pair of slides, and his wallet that contained his banking card and driver’s license.”
He was reportedly driving his girlfriend’s car, which was soon recovered in Virginia Beach, “with Samuel’s shoes and socks on the floor of the front passenger seat.” Nobody has seen him since, with his family and loved ones continuing the search.
