The New England Patriots have officially shifted its focus to the 2026-2027 season.
After falling short in Super Bowl LX to the Seattle Seahawks, New England will look for ways this offseason to get back to the Big Game. The next few months will feature the combine, free agency, and the draft, before a long period of time before the start of training camp/OTAs.
Heading into the offseason, the Patriots find themselves in a good position.
According to overthecap.com, the Patriots currently have the 11th-most cap space this upcoming offseason with around $42 million. They’re also in good position to retain pending free agents/extend current players/chase after some guys in free agency. The Patriots can add about $45 million in cap by adding void years to the contracts of guys like Milton Williams, Carlton Davis, Harold Landry, and Robert Spillane.
Let’s take a look at the Patriots’ soon-to-be free agents this offseason.
New England Patriots Free Agents This Offseason
Below is a list of New England Patriots players set to become free agents this offseason. The free agents are broken down into three categories- unrestricted, restricted, and exclusive rights.
An unrestricted free agent allows a player to negotiate with any team. Restricted free agents can negotiate with other teams, but their current team has the right to match the offer. An exclusive rights free agent can not negotiate with other teams if his original team offers him a one-year contract at the league minimum.
Unrestricted free agents:
LB K’Lavon Chaisson
RB D’Ernest Johnson
TE Austin Hooper
DL Khyiris Tonga
OT Thayer Munford
OT Vedarian Lowe
S Jaylinn Hawkins
Restricted free agents:
CB Alex Austin
QB Tommy DeVito
LB Jack Gibbens
DL Jaquelin Roy
Exclusive rights free agents:
RB Deneric Prince
DL Isaiah Iton
TE Jack Westover
The Pats could lose any one of these players. Losing Hooper could make sense since he and Hunter Henry are each 31 years old and Henry being TE1 the last few seasons. Chaisson, who had the best season of his career on a one-year deal, could demand more money than the Patriots are willing to give.
Safety Jaylinn Hawkins is another player who could leave in free agency after a breakout year, becoming one of the league’s best safeties against the run.
