What Happened in Marcellus Wiley’s Case? Former NFL Pro Bowler Charges Explained

Former Buffalo Bills defensive end and former San Diego Chargers Pro Bowler Marcellus Wiley has been accused of four counts of sexual assault as reported by Awful Announcing’s Drew Lerner. These allegations come on the backdrop of a court filing made last month, with the four claims adding to the already present three claims that Wiley was battling earlier.

Wiley, who was often seen making appearances on ESPN and Fox as a sports broadcaster before leaving the network in 2022, has called the previous accusations “B.S.”, while he is yet to comment on the new claims.

The former NFL veteran, who also played for the Dallas Cowboys in 2004 while also spending a couple of seasons with the Jaguars in 2005 and 2006, has resorted to legal counsel with his lawyer positively refuting the new set of accusations made in the court filings last month.

Amongst the new set of allegations that Wiley is currently facing, Lerner reports that an ESPN production assistant has accused Wiley of allegedly assaulting her in a hotel room, while a grooming claim has also come up, with the former Pro Bowler reportedly taking advantage of the alleged victim while being in touch with her ever since the complainant was 13.

New Sexual Assault Allegations Against Wiley Revive 1994 Columbia University Incident

With Wiley currently facing four new claims alleging sexual assault, this is not the first time the former defensive end has been accused of the same.

A rape lawsuit dating back to November 2023 has Marcus Wiley named for allegedly sexually assaulting a Columbia University student back in 1994. During his time as a sophomore at NYC’s premier institution, Wiley was accused of assaulting a fellow student, as he “sexually assaulted plaintiff, raping her multiple times in her dorm room,” the lawsuit read.

The lawsuit also alleged Wiley caused the plaintiff severe emotional distress, hailing Marcus’ actions as intentional and reckless.

After the emergence of these heinous claims, Columbia University did expel Marcus on the backdrop of poor grades as they put him on academic probation.

Marcus Wiley was eventually picked up by the Buffalo Bills back in 1997 as a second-round pick, where he spent a total of four years before moving bases to the San Diego Chargers, Dallas Cowboys, and the Jacksonville Jaguars as he ended his 11-year-long NFL playing career back in 2006.
