Former Tennessee Titans cornerback L’Jarius Sneed has seen the charges pressed against him for a shooting at a Dallas car dealership in December 2024 dropped this past Friday. Sneed’s criminal defense attorney, Michael J. Todd, made the announcement.
Originally, L’Jarius Sneed was charged with aggravated assault. Still, the charge was eventually reduced to a misdemeanor offense of failure to report a felony under circumstances in which serious bodily injury or death may have resulted, and knowingly failing to immediately report the commission of the offense to a law enforcement officer.
According to ESPN, the two-time Super Bowl champion posted the following comment on social media following the announcement:
“Been such a toll on me the pass (past) two years, the weight is finally off. Tell that devil I’m coming back for everything he tried to still (steal).”
Sneed is a four-round pick from the 2020 NFL Draft, who played between 2020 and 2023 with the Kansas City Chiefs, winning two Super Bowl rings with them, before moving to Tennessee between 2024 and 2025. He was released in early 2026 following two injury-riddled seasons in which he only played 12 games, and his career’s future is in doubt.
The move helped them save $11.4 million in salary cap space, while costing them $8.1 million in dead cap money. They had signed him in 2024 to a four-year, $76 million deal.
What was the incident that made L’Jarius Sneed fall into legal trouble?
On December 6th, 2024, Christian Nshimiyimana, the owner of a luxury car rental, was in his Mercedes G-Wagon at a dealership in Carrollton, Texas. Nshimiyimana alleges Sneed and an unidentified companion pulled up to the dealership and shot at him. He filed a $1 million civil lawsuit against the NFL player for what his lawyers described as “an unprovoked attack in cold blood and broad daylight.”
According to Nshimiyimana, he recognized L’Jarius Sneed and his companion from the dealership incident, but wasn’t aware of the former’s football career. The lawyers proposed the theory that Sneed and his alleged accomplice confused Nshimiyimana for another person.
The lawsuit is still pending, although the state of Texas has dropped the criminal charges against L’Jarius Sneed.
