A clip is doing the rounds on the internet, with many believing Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce attended the 2026 Met Gala in New York on Monday. Fans are confused whether to believe it or not.
It was a very unique outfit in the first place, but we can expect that from Kelce. Take a look at that for yourself:
The person in the clip, alleged to be Kelce, is wearing a black, Erté-inspired mermaid-style gown. The sleeves and collar were fuzzy and wing-like. It was kind of a bat-wing type design. There was also an oversized feathered headpiece.
Was Travis Kelce at Met Gala 2026?
No, the person in the above video is not Travis Kelce. It’s actually Sam Smith. But because of the uncanny resemblance between the tight end and the English singer, many got fooled into believing that it was Kelce.
Smith posted about the outfit on Instagram as well, fitting right into Met Gala’s “Fashion Is Art” theme. He captioned a quote from Erte:
“ART IS NOT A THING; IT IS A WAY.”
The oversized feathered hat was designed by Christian Cowan and Stephen Jones. Cowan powered the look with earrings from Cartier. Greg Bailey did the photoshoot to display the outfit to the world.
Sam Smith was born in 1992 in London. He rose to fame in 2012 through collaborations like “Latch” with Disclosure and “La La La” with Naughty Boy. His debut album was In the Lonely Hour (2014), which included the hit song “Stay With Me.” Moreover, Smith has delivered chart-topping albums like The Thrill of It All and Gloria. Their song “Unholy” was a major global hit, topping the US charts as well.
On the other hand, it’s confirmed that both Travis Kelce and his fiancée, Taylor Swift, were notable absents in this year’s Met Gala. Swift has not attended a single Met Gala since 2016. In her last appearance, she wore a silver Louis Vuitton dress.
The couple got engaged in late 2025 and is reportedly busy with their wedding preparations. The wedding ceremony could take place in July in New York City.
