The Baltimore Ravens are going into the 2026 NFL season with a stacked quarterback room, with a highly unusual five signal-callers in their depth chart. Of course, they are retaining Lamar Jackson as their starter and Tyler Huntley as their backup. Behind them, they added rookie undrafted free agents Joe Fagnano and Heisman Trophy finalist Diego Pavia.
Now it looks like they’re adding yet another quarterback to take their number of signal callers up to five. According to the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, they’re expected to sign former Miami backup Skylar Thompson. Thompson spent the 2022-2024 period with the Dolphins, managing to get three starts with the team. Signed in early 2025 by the Pittsburgh Steelers, he suffered an injury in early September and spent the season on the injured reserve.
“The #Ravens are expected to sign veteran QB Skylar Thompson, source said, and Baltimore will likely carry 5 QBs for the time being,” wrote Rapoport on X
With this, the Ravens QB depth chart could look something like this at the start of the season
- QB1: Lamar Jackson
- QB2: Tyler Huntley
- QB3: Joe Fagnano
- QB3: Diego Pavia
- QB5: Skylar Thompson
Baltimore Ravens coach Jesse Minter sends a message to Diego Pavia
Diego Pavia was one of the most unexpected storylines of the 2026 NFL Draft. After all, the former Vanderbilt quarterback was one of the finalists for last year’s Heisman Trophy and went undrafted in 2026. The first time since 2014, a Heisman finalist didn’t get drafted.
He has, however, gotten a second chance, being signed by the Ravens in an undrafted free agent contract. And according to coach Jesse Minter, he’s willing to give Pavia a chance to prove himself with the team:
“So now he’s just he’s in the door, you know, and it’s like ‘show us what you can do. Let the chips fall where they may.’ And just like all the undrafted rookies, that’s what I would say,” Minter said this weekend when discussing the class of incoming players
And there’s a good chance that Pavia could make his way into becoming the team’s backup, with his highly mobile dual-threat playstyle being not that dissimilar from Lamar Jackson. Taking over starting duties? That’s a whole other conversation; that’s very unlikely to take place.
