Was TPUSA’s Super Bowl Halftime Show Actually Live? Questions Raised As New Details Emerge

Despite the Super Bowl matchup between the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks ending quite a few hours ago, one key takeaway from the Super Bowl encounter was pop star Bad Bunny’s halftime performance at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, as it is still one of the most talked-about things on the internet right now.

From electric performances to symbolic socio-political messaging, the 6-time Grammy winner’s 13-minute-long performance garnered a lot of attention worldwide from fans and celebrities alike.

However, leading up to the halftime show, there was a lot of pushback around Bad Bunny headlining the event. With the Super Bowl often synonymous with being an American and a patriotic event, combined with the current climate of the United States about immigrants, a Hispanic performer leading the show did not sit right with some people.

On the backdrop of this, Turning Point USA offered an alternative to this halftime performance with their all-American halftime show featuring the likes of Lee Brice and Kid Rock, amongst other performers.

However, unlike Bad Bunny’s halftime performance, emerging reports suggest that there was no clear indication of whether Turning Point USA’s halftime performance was in fact live. According to Variety, audiences tuning in for TPUSA’s performance didn’t even know where the show was being conducted.

However, sources say that the entire performance was prerecorded in Atlanta before being telecast during the bowl break.

Meanwhile, the likes of Brantley Gilbert and Gabby Barrett also performed during Turning Point’s supposed prerecorded halftime show.

Super Bowl vs. TPUSA Halftime Show: Which Show Had More Viewership

The NFL’s Super Bowl LX halftime show has reportedly garnered close to 135 million viewers, unofficially becoming the most-viewed halftime bowl performance in the history of the league.

Bad Bunny’s “Benito Bowl” was a huge contrast to Turning Point’s halftime show in terms of viewership, as the All-American halftime show could only manage to garner just over 6 million views.

Turning Point’s embarrassingly low viewership count could not even beat Animal Planet’s Puppy Bowl XXII, which was held last year. The Puppy Bowl, which raked in an average of 12.8 million viewers, featured rescued dogs with adoption messaging being the main theme.
