“Indiana Bears”: Fans Protest Chicago Bears’ Decision to Build Stadium in Another State

The Chicago Bears will be keen to get back to winning ways in the upcoming NFL season, but it appears they have bigger fish to fry in the meantime.

That’s because the NFL franchise has announced its intention to go on and build a new stadium, and while that should be great news for fans, the exact location has some up in arms.

“We believe a world-class stadium project in Hammond will transform the region connecting northwest Indiana to the south side of Chicago through the loop and across neighborhoods and suburbs stretching north of the city and will bring Chicago land together and deliver new opportunities to its residents and businesses,” a statement from the Chicago Bears confirmed.

But fans aren’t necessarily pleased, with a long drive across states now expected and with some clearly trolling the decision to move an Illinois based team to Indiana.

“No it’s not getting bigger. They’re now the Indiana Bears! I love it! Poverty ownership, poverty city and state, poverty franchise!,” one fan said.

“The Indiana Bears,” one fan simply commented.

“NFL fans, have you learned nothing from the Rams, Raiders etc? NFL owners don’t care about you. They’ll leave you behind in a second to make a dollar more. Even if they stay they’ll take your home games overseas. But you keep subsidizing those free stadiums for them! Suckers,” another commented.

“That’s one way to look at it. Not sure most of Chicago residents will agree,” another said.

“Pride and Joy of Illino….Indiana,” one fan said.

What’s Indiana’s Reaction to the Decision?

While residents in Chicago seem upset, Indiana is rejoicing, with Governor Mike Braun hailing the decision taken by the Bears.

“We look forward to building a partnership as strong as the ’85 Bears defense, creating opportunities and economic growth that will benefit our state and the Bears organization for decades to come,” a part of Braun’s statement said.

“An NFL franchise in Northwest Indiana will be an economic boost to the entire region like we haven’t seen before.”
