One of the biggest debates in the NFL right now is who should be the QB1 for the Cleveland Browns right now, Deshaun Watson or Shedeur Sanders. Watson is probably the more expensive and experienced quarterback the Browns have right now, while it was Sanders who carried the team during the last few games of the season. Right now, however, the fans clearly know who they want and it is Shedeur.
However. ESPN Cleveland host Tony Grossi stated during their radio show episode on May 22 that while the Browns fans want Sanders to be the starter, it is Watson who is getting more reps. This comes as new head coach Todd Monken has stated that so far, nothing has changed during the QB battle between the two.
“99% of Browns fans want Shedeur play, 1% want Watson to play, and I think he’s sensitive to that… our numbers show he’s (Watson) getting more reps,” Grossi said.
Grossi noted that while Monken is saying that there is still no clear winner during the QB battle over at Cleveland, Watson may be getting the lead because he is getting more reps. Grossi also added that Watson has been getting more reps than anyone else on the team, noting that this contradicts Monken’s claim on the QB battle’s status.
Desaun Watson was initially brought in to become the Cleveland Browns’ star QB. However, his time in Cleveland was filled with injuries, including spending much of last season in the injured reserve thanks to a torn Achilles tendon. Meanwhile, Shedeur Sanders went from QB3 to QB1 last season and showed a lot of promise, even getting selected to play in the Pro Bowl, the first Browns QB1 to do so in years.
Todd Monken Promised a Fair Quarterback Battle Between Deshaun Watson and Shedeur Sanders
Deshau Watson is trying to resurrect his career after all those injuries, while Shedeur Sanders seeks to silence his critics. Both quarterbacks have a lot on the line for this quarterback battle, and Todd Monken reportedly made promises for both of them.
He promised Sanders a fair chance, while he promised Watson a clean slate. He said that he wants to get a starter named to every position by the end of spring, which means that both QBs still have plenty of time. However, with the number of reps Watson is getting, he could be in the lead right now.
