The New England Patriots haven’t had any luck in the Hall of Fame this year. Days after the Bill Belichick snub, Robert Kraft is now being denied entry into the Hall of Fame. Both snubs have caused major controversies.
Belichick not being a first ballot Hall of Famer has not been received well by fans, current and former players, and coaches. In fact, Kraft also released a statement criticizing the voters for snubbing Belichick.
Days later, the Patriots’ owner received the same treatment. Kraft’s snub was discussed on ESPN’s Get Up after Adam Schefter informed the panel about the latest development. Dan Graziano didn’t mince his words while calling out the snub.
“The fact that Belichick didn’t get enough votes to get in on the first ballot makes the entire process a joke,” Graziano said. “The Pro Football Hall of Fame voting process is insanely stupid and should be overhauled completely.”
Graziano stated that the problem with the Hall of Fame has existed for a very long time. In his opinion, giving complete authority to 50 people who dictate who gets into the Hall of Fame is unjustified.
He also has a problem with the secrecy around the entire process, when in reality, the Hall of Fame and the inclusions are meant to be celebrated by the fans. Graziano used an example from his own experience to outline how terrible the process is.
“I voted for the Baseball Hall of Fame for years. That process took all kinds of abuse. It is insanely more democratic and fair than what goes on in the Pro Football,” he added.
As per Graziano, the Pro Football Hall of Fame is digging its own grave by these repeated mistakes because it will make fans realize that the entire process is a joke and is not to be taken seriously. If they continue down this path, soon the Pro Football Hall of Fame might end up with the same credibility as the Pro Bowl.
Robert Kraft Supported Bill Belichick
When Belichick was snubbed from becoming a first-ballot Hall of Famer, the entire NFL community was in disbelief. An eight-time Super Bowl winner, six times as a head coach, who is responsible for arguably the greatest dynasty in football, did not get enough votes.
Belichick received support from countless fans and players, including the great Tom Brady. Those who like to stir the pot wondered why Kraft was silent on the issue, only to be proven wrong by the Patriots’ owner hours later.
“He is the greatest coach of all time, and he unequivocally deserves to be a unanimous first-ballot Pro Football Hall of Famer,” Kraft said in a statement via The Associated Press.
He stated that even though they’ve had differences in the past, Belichick’s contributions to the Patriots and football in general can never be undermined.
