Jayden Daniels Opens Up About Kobe Bryant’s Impact During Recovery From Elbow Injury

Jayden Daniels went into the 2025 season with sky-high expectations, but left it early due to injury. The season had not gone according to plan even before, but the injury made it abundantly clear that Daniels’ honeymoon rookie rise was over. The fun was then replaced by work, and that was instantly clear when he sustained the elbow injury during the Nov. 2 Seattle Seahawks contest.

In the new season of “Quarterback” on Netflix via Sleeper HQ’s affiliate Brandon on X, Daniels used Kobe Bryant’s toughness as a source of motivation to walk off the field in tremendous pain.

“I’ve seen Kobe [Bryant] walk off the court with a ruptured Achilles and everything like that. So an elbow…why can’t I get up and not walk to the locker room?” he said.

Daniels threw for eight touchdowns and three interceptions in 2025, down from 25 touchdowns and nine interceptions in 2024. His completion percentage also tumbled from 69% in 2024 to 60.6% in 2025.

Jayden Daniels Gets Snubbed From ESPN’s Top 10 QB Ranking

Jayden Daniels started his career on fire, but enough film study for opponents might have caught up to him in 2025. At least, that is what ESPN’s Top 10 quarterback ranking might have concluded as Daniels failed to make the top 10 Monday ranking heading into the 2026 season.

Some of the quarterbacks ranked above Daniels were Lamar Jackson at No. 5, Dak Prescott at No. 6, Justin Herbert at No. 7, Drake Maye at No. 8 and Caleb Williams at No. 10.

“Four quarterbacks — Williams, Seattle’s Sam Darnold, Green Bay’s Jordan Love and Washington’s Jayden Daniels — were very close in voting for the 10th spot,” the ranking read. “So we took it to tiebreakers, gathering input from several general managers and executives.”

Other quarterbacks snubbed from ESPN’s top 10 list were Super Bowl winner Sam Darnold, former Super Bowl quarterback Brock Purdy, prior Super Bowl winner Jalen Hurts, and the winner of the No. 1 AFC playoff seed, Bo Nix.
