The NFL just went through one of the most active coaching markets in recent memory, with 10 teams changing coaches in the 2026 cycle. However, that doesn’t mean the changes are over. Several teams fired their general manager or are considering doing so.
Here are the top candidates to become the leaders of different front offices this year.
Top Executives Who Could Land the Next GM Job
#4 Mike Greenberg | Assistant GM, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Greenberg has spent 16 years with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, three of those as an assistant general manager. He was part of the front office that brought Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski to Tampa Bay and saw the team win Super Bowl LV. At the time, he was the team’s vice president of football administration after having been promoted from director of football administration after eight seasons. The Jacksonville Jaguars, New York Jets, and Carolina Panthers are reportedly looking to sign him.
#3 Brandon Brown | Assistant GM, New York Giants

Brown has been the Giants’ assistant general manager since 2022, and just last year, he was a finalist to become the Las Vegas Raiders general manager. His tenure at New York hasn’t been particularly successful, but he’s well regarded for his 2017-2021 stint with the Philadelphia Eagles, which he capped as director of player personnel. He brings more than a decade of NFL and collegiate experience. He’s considered a candidate for the Dolphins and the Vikings. However, some think that he would prefer an internal promotion inside the Giants.
#2 Terrance Gray | Assistant GM, Buffalo Bills

Gray was promoted to assistant general manager at Buffalo just a little under a year ago. He has been with the Bills since 2017, where he previously served as director of player personnel. He’s considered a top candidate for the Miami Dolphins and Minnesota Vikings vacancies. Gray has been passed over for general manager at the last minute by several teams, including the Raiders, Chargers, Titans, and Jaguars.
#1 Ray Agnew | Assistant GM, Detroit Lions

He’s arguably the most mos coveted executive at the moment, who isn’t already a general manager. Agnew is part of the front office team that helped turn the Detroit Lions from a laughingstock to a real competitor for the postseason. He’s a former player himself, having been a defensive lineman in the NFL for a decade and winning Super Bowl XXXIV in 2000. Several teams seem interested in his services: the Miami Dolphins, the New York Jets, and the Atlanta Falcons.
