What You Need To Know About Bubba Ventrone

Bubba Ventrone’s real name is Raymond or “Ray” Ventrone. The special teams coordinator is joining Los Angeles after a short two-year stint with the Cleveland Browns.

Ventrone played for the organization from 2009 to 2012 as a defensive back. In total, Ventrone played eight seasons in the NFL. According to Browns media, Ventrone has two decades of experience in the NFL as a player and a coach.

Before the Browns, Ventrone was a special teams coordinator for the Indianapolis Colts and a special teams assistant for the New England Patriots.

On his watch, Browns kicker Dustin Hopkins made 33 attempted field goals in 2025, which was a team record.

Exploring Why Bubba Ventrone Changed Teams

Sean McVay and the Los Angeles Rams hired a coach with an extensive NFL history, but why was he available in the first place? The reason appears to be due to factors outside Ventrone’s control.

Kevin Stefanski was fired shortly after Week 18. Upon the hire of Todd Monken, it appeared that Ventrone desired a different fit. As such, he landed with the Rams to replace Chase Blackburn and Ben Kotwica, who many believe were at least partly to blame for the team’s special team woes in 2025.

On Blackburn and Kotwica’s watches, Joshua Karty made just 10 of 15 attempted field goals and missed three extra points in eight games.

Ventrone will be tasked with tightening up the kicking game while also helping out the kick return game, which was a sore spot for Los Angeles. The team’s returners earned a fraction of the league leaders in the category.
