“My Heart Literally Breaks”: Former NFL Star Gets Emotional While Talking About Chris Johnson’s ALS Diagnosis

The NFL world was left stunned after three-time Pro Bowl Running Back Chris Johnson’s unveiled his ALS diagnosis on Monday.

Many NFL stars, including Patrick Mahomes, Robert Griffin III and Shannon Sharpe, sent heartfelt prayers and wishes to Johnson and his family.

Emmanuel Acho also spoke about Johnson’s situation on “Speakeasy” on Monday, highlighting how it’s a reminder that life is extremely unpredictable:

“I praise God for a woman that is standing by his side, that is encouraging him. When you have ALS, and unfortunately, I have studied it well, when you have ALS, it completely debilitates you from the mundane things. Think about taking a shower. So, I praise God for his wife, Brittany. I praise God for his children that continue to keep him going.”

“ALS, I would suggest, is one of the worst of diseases that mankind has had to face because you’re living, you’re functioning mentally to the fullest of capacities, but you are watching your body wither away. And your caretakers and your loved ones, as they are continuing to grow and ascend and get promoted and fall in love and find jobs and find homes, their lives might be getting better, yet they have to watch you, an individual they love and care about, they have to watch your life simultaneously get worse. So, this shook me today, Chris Johnson. It’s not enough to simply say sending you love or sending you prayers, though we are, but my heart literally breaks for him and breaks for his family.”

Louis Riddick Expresses His Sympathy for Chris Johnson Amid ALS Diagnosis

Among many NFL insiders and analysts, Louis Riddick also penned a heartfelt message for Chris Johnson, expressing his sympathies for what the family is going through mentally, emotionally and physically.

Riddick wrote that thinking about what Johnson and his family must be feeling just takes one’s breath away.

“ALS diagnosis at the age of just 39,” Riddick said. “It takes your breath away thinking about what he is possibly feeling, given what he is facing and his family holding on to hope and prayer that something can be done.”

Riddick further called the whole situation “soul-shattering” and another reminder of why one should never take life for granted.
