Terrion Arnold was released by the Detroit Lions days after his arrest in connection with a kidnapping and robbery incident.
While the discussions around the subject will continue for a long time, Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson has failed to understand why no one around Terrion Arnold stopped him. According to Johnson, Arnold, whom the Lions picked at No. 24 in the 2024 draft, had his entire future ahead of him.
“Matter of fact, people around you, they also have to make better decisions,” he said on “Nightcap.” “It’s me being the golden goose. It’s me being a football player. If anything does go wrong, it’s all coming back on me. It’s not coming back on y’all.”
Arnold, who had a four-year, $14.34 million contract, played only two seasons with the Lions. He was likely going to be the starting cornerback for Detroit.
That’s the potential that Ochocinco was referring to. Even though he was yet to make waves in the NFL as a first-round pick, Arnold was headed in the right direction. Now, there’s a possibility that he might get sentenced to life in prison.
“Once you’re in that league, once you make it, those that are around you gotta understand, once you’re the golden goose, all that stuff you used to do back in the days when you had nothing going on … we ain’t gotta worry about that,” Ochocinco said.
His co-host echoed the same sentiment, saying that the people around a potential star like Arnold have the potential to influence his behavior. In Johnson’s case, the influences around him have put him out of his job.
Shannon Sharpe on What Terrion Arnold Should Be Worried About
Arnold’s career didn’t take off the way one would’ve expected from a first-round pick. His second season was marred by injuries. Still, he could’ve come back the next season and turn things around.
He was released by the Lions following his arrest, which essentially ended his NFL career. Shannon Sharpe believes that not having a job should be the least of his worries because Arnold has bigger things to worry about.
“That should be the least of his worries, he could possibly spend the rest of his damn life in jail. That should be the most important thing,” Sharpe said.
Arnold is facing four counts of kidnapping and four counts of armed robbery from an incident in February. The charges could carry a sentence of up to life in prison.
