The Patriots ended the 2025 NFL season competing for the Super Bowl title; however, the franchise’s offseason has been less about the time and more about their head coach Mike Vrabel’s off-field controversies so far.
Vrabel was spotted with popular NFL reporter Dianna Russini at a luxurious resort in Arizona a few weeks ago; the two were secretly captured holding hands, hugging, and spending time together in the hot tub.
Both the entities have been subject to massive public scrutiny since then, as they are both married to other people.
While Russini had to quit her job at “The Athletic” after they began an internal investigation on her conduct, Vrabel didn’t really face any consequences.
Talking about a world where Vrabel can actually miss coaching the Patriots in 2026, NFL insider Adam Schefter said on Wednesday:
“I would say that right now there are zero plans for Mike Rivela’s zero plans to step down. Patriots don’t have any plans for him to step down today. As we’ve seen in this particular situation, it continues to take twists and turns where you think the story may be subsiding, and it’s not. And I would say that as long as there are no other flare-ups or revelations or videos or pictures or whatever it may be, as long as there’s nothing else, I would fully expect Mike Vrabel to coach next year. But are there going to be more things that come out? I have no idea.”
“No, I don’t think so. I think that I expect that trade to proceed when the two sides are able to come together and formalize a trade that would send A.J. Brown to the Patriots.” Schefter says on A.J. Brown potentially changing his mind if Vrabel leaves.
Drake Maye Extends Support to Mike Vrabel Amid Dianna Russini Controversy
A few Patriots players have come out and extended their support for Mike Vrabel over his off-field struggles in this offseason, including the team’s star quarterback, Drake Maye.
Maye spoke to Jonathan Hall on 30th April and said that the team is there for “Coach” and added that they love him.
The Patriots quarterback then expressed gratitude for everything Vrabel did for the team last year and said it can’t be put into words.
Maye said that while Vrabel is going through some off-field issues, he knows the Patriots head coach is going to come back from it.
