Following an injury-riddled season last year, Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans will likely hit free agency, and will likely end a 12-year tenure with the Buccaneers. Evans is getting older, starting to endure more injuries, and the Bucs could be looking to get younger at the position.
With Evans expected to hit free agency, there will be many teams interested in adding the veteran wide out to their roster. One of those teams is reportedly the New England Patriots.
Per NFL reporter Jason La Canfora, the Patriots are among several teams interested in signing Evans this offseason.
Adding Evans would be a huge upgrade at the position for the Patriots. Stefon Diggs had 85 receptions for over 1,000 yards, but no other wide receiver had more than 551 receiving yards or more than six touchdown receptions. If healthy, Evans could be a veteran presence and productive wide receiver for Drake Maye.
Top Free Agent WRs Heading Into Offseason
Heading into the offseason, there are some notable free agent wide receivers that could make impacts for the 2026-2027 season.
The class is highlighted by George Pickens, who had a career season with the Dallas Cowboys after being acquired by them from the Pittsburgh Steelers. He had career-highs in receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns this past season.
Alec Pierce recorded his first 1,000-yard season after averaging over 20 yards per catch. Along with Mike Evans, another potential future Hall of Fame wide receiver is a free agent in Tyreek Hill.
Other notable free agent wide receivers include Rashid Shaheed, Romeo Doubs, Jauan Jennings, Wan’Dale Robinson, Deebo Samuel, and Christian Kirk.
