Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray’s recent emotional post on social media is being viewed differently by fans, who believe he took a subtle jab at his team. On Tuesday, March 3, several media outlets reported that coach Mike LaFleur‘s Cardinals squad has informed Murray that he could be released from the team as soon as next week.
This comes after Murray wrapped up the 2025 NFL season with the Cardinals, who had an overall record of 3-14 and were the fourth seed in the NFC West. Murray, who has been with the franchise for almost a decade now, went over his X/Twitter account to write an emotional message for the Arizona faithful, where he mentioned that he wanted to end the team’s title drought.
However, NFL fans online believed that the ’77-year drought’ comment that Murray made was actually a subtle shot at his team.
“77 year drought, is that a dig?” one fan questioned.
“77 year drought is diabolical,” another fan said.
“77 year drought lol way to tell them Kyler, best of luck,” another user shared.
“That 77 year comment was a Jab 🤣,” a fan posted with a laughing emoji.
Other X users defended the Arizona-based franchise despite its apparent title drought.
“77 year drought of what? They won a Super Bowl with Kurt and Fitz,” one fan claimed.
“You watch film yet or you still playing Fortnite every day?” another user wrote.
“Don’t say you failed anyone, or that you’re sorry. Everyone could tell you were giving it your all in Modern Warfare buddy,” a user asserted.
For now, Murray is presumably a free agent and hopes to land in a new team in the current NFL offseason. If he can do so, he will enter his eighth year in the league come the 2026 campaign. So far, he has played in the NFL only with the Arizona-based franchise, as he was drafted by them with the first overall pick in the first round of the 2019 draft.
Kyler Murray Wanted To Be The One To Help Arizona Snap Its 77-Year Drought
The comment made by Kyler Murray regarding the Arizona Cardinals’ 77-year Super Bowl drought came as the veteran made it clear all he wanted was to snap it for the Cardinals faithful.
While some onlookers may have perceived it differently, Murray said he is thankful for the love and support he has received as a member of the team.
“I wanted nothing more than to be the one to end the 77-year drought for this organization. I am sorry I failed us. I wish this community and my brothers nothing but the best. I am no stranger to adversity; I am prepared for whatever’s next. I trust in God and my work ethic. I truly believe my best ball is in front of me, and I look forward to proving it. Godspeed 🥋,” Murray said with an emoji.
