After serving as the Arizona Cardinals’ starting quarterback for the last seven seasons, the team is expected to move on from quarterback Kyler Murray this offseason.
Murray, a two-time Pro Bowler, has only led Arizona to the postseason once, and has a career record of 38-48-1.
With new leadership in new head coach Mike LaFleur, the team is expected to trade Murray on franchise. If they are unable to trade Murray, a release could be another option.
This past season, Murray made just five starts, throwing for 962 yards. six touchdowns, and three interceptions. He suffered an early season-ending foot injury that derailed most of his 2025-2026 season.
Murray has a big cap hit of $52.7 million this season and if he’s on the team by March 11, he will get an extra $20 million going into next season.
James Conner Could be a Salary Cap Casualty
It’s very likely that the Arizona Cardinals get rid of its starting quarterback and running back this offseason.
Starting running back James Conner has been a great addition and asset to the team’s backfield for the last five seasons. He’s rushed for over 2,800 yards, 1,300 receiving yards, and 46 touchdowns with the Cardinals in that span.
However, he has a cap hit of $9.8 million this season and is coming off of a severe foot injury that sidelined him for most last season. He’ll turn 31 this offseason and again, with new leadership, they could decide to save some money and move on from Conner.
The Athletic’s Doug Haller believes Conner will be a cap casualty, and thinks he could become a free agent this offseason. If so, he would likely garner some interest.
In his career, Conner has been named a Pro Bowler twice and has over 8,000 yards of offense and 72 total touchdowns scored.
