After a historic season last year, Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba will be paid as one of the highest-paid WRs in the NFL soon.
Smith-Njigba was named the NFL’s Offensive Player of the Year for the 2025-2026 season after leading the league in receiving yards with 1,793. He also set career-highs in receptions (119) and receiving touchdowns (10) in a single season.
With Smith-Njigba entering the fourth year of his NFL career this fall, he is due for a contract extension. However, the star wide out isn’t in a rush to get a deal done.
According to NFL insider Adam Schefter, JSN isn’t pressed about getting a contract done soon, and could even go this offseason without a new deal in place.
Jaxon Smith-Njigba Is Expected to Sign Contract North of $40 Million Per Year
Whether it’s this offseason, during the 2026-2027 NFL season, or next offseason, Jaxon Smith-Njigba is expected to sign a contract extension worth $40 million or more per year.
Right now, Cincinnati Bengals WR Ja’Marr Chase is the highest-paid WR in the NFL, making $40.25 million per year (4-year, $161 million contract.) Smith-Njigba said he believes he deserves to be the highest-paid WR when he signs his contract, meaning he would surpass Chase’s yearly average of $40.25 million per season.
With the salary cap increasing each offseason, JSN might be playing his cards by waiting next offseason to secure an even bigger deal. Of course, there’s the risk that he gets injured this year in a contract year and gets offered less money next offseason.
Either way, when Smith-Njigba does get a contract extension, he will likely become one of the league’s top-paid WRs and could even rest the WR market.
Smith-Njigba has 282 receptions, 3,551 receiving yards, and 20 receiving touchdowns in his three-year career.
