Jim Schwartz Reportedly Burns Bridge With Browns After Being Passed Over for HC Job

The Cleveland Browns have their new head coach, and it isn’t defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz.

The Browns announced Wednesday that they agreed to terms with former Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken to become their next head coach, passing up Schwartz for an outside candidate.

Schwartz joined Cleveland’s coaching staff in 2023 and was viewed as a strong candidate to take over. After being passed over for Monken, Schwartz reportedly wants out of Cleveland, despite the team wanting to retain him.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported that Schwartz said his goodbye to members of the Browns’ coaching staff while saying that he would not return back to Cleveland.

Schwartz should have some interest from some teams to join their staff as defensive coordinator. Schwartz has tons of coaching experience, beginning his career as a coach in the NFL in 1996 as a outside linebackers coach. He was the head coach of the Detroit Lions from 2009-2013.
