Bill Belichick’s first ballot Hall of Fame snub has rattled the entire NFL world. Nearly three decades as head coach, a 333-178 regular season record, 31-13 in the playoffs, eight total Super Bowl wins, three AP NFL Coach of the Year, and countless other achievements. That’s Bill Belichick’s legacy.
Shockingly, it’s not enough to convince a bunch of reporters that Belichick deserves to be a first ballot Hall of Famer. At the same time, it’s not really surprising because those people rarely, if ever, know what they’re doing.
The Pro Football Hall of Fame’s credibility, reputation, and relevance have taken a massive hit because of this decision. Many fans and former football stars have come out in support of Belichick, wondering what could have possibly been the reason behind this snub.
Three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year and Houston Texans legend, JJ Watt, joined the widespread discussion. The former NFL defensive end expressed complete shock over this news.
“I can’t be reading this right. This has to be some knock-off Hall of Fame or something, it can’t be the actual NFL Hall of Fame. There is not a single world whatsoever in which Bill Belichick should not be a First-Ballot Hall of Famer,” Watt wrote.
Watt isn’t the only one having a tough time digesting this news. NBA legend LeBron James took to X and stated that it’s disrespectful to the legacy of Bill Belichick.
“Man there’s no way I read that right! Right? Ain’t no WAY Bill Belichick ain’t 1st Ballot HOF!! That’s IMPOSSIBLE, EGREGIOUS, and quite frankly DISRESPECTFUL!” James wrote.
We can continue to list players, fans, celebrities, and more expressing their true feelings about the snub. We can also keep listing out every achievement by Belichick that makes him the greatest coach the sport has ever seen, but if it’s directed at people with agendas or jealousy, none of it is going to matter.
Tom Brady on Bill Belichick’s Snub
Brady and Belichick haven’t had the best relationship for a while. After the initial few years, their bond started deteriorating and eventually led to Brady leaving New England. But Brady has always had respect and admiration for his former coach.
While speaking with Fox News’ Armando Salguero, Brady vouched for Belichick, going as far as to say that there’s not another coach in the history of the league who deserves it more than Bill Belichick.
“I don’t believe that any coach in the history of the game has done more to earn his place in the Hall of Fame than Bill Belichick. To say that he was my greatest coaching influence would be an understatement,” Brady said.
“We were consistently competitive at the highest level every week as he challenged us to grow from the day that season started to the day it ended. That’s the role of the head coach, and that’s Bill Belichick,” he added.
Everybody gets it. Quite literally, everybody gets why Belichick deserves the honor. Except for some who get to vote for the honor.
