The Pittsburgh Steelers entered free agency as one of the top 10 teams in total cap space. Pittsburgh usually lays low during free agency, and are rarely big spenders. However, yesterday, they made some moves.
The Steelers added two new offensive playmakers to its offense, trading for Indianapolis Colts WR Michael Pittman Jr. (and extending him to a three-year, $59 million extension) and signing running back Rico Dowdle to a two-year deal worth $12.25 million. The Steelers also signed cornerback Jamel Dean to a three-year deal.
Following the Steelers’ moves, they still have more cap space than 14 teams with a little over $14 million available (according to overthecap.com.)
With uncertainty at the quarterback position with Aaron Rodgers being a free agent and not having his commitment yet, the Steelers have not been reluctant to being big spenders this offseason. According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, the Steelers have a backup plan in using Will Howard or Mason Rudolph as their quarterback, which is why they’ve been aggressive early on in free agency.
Could The Pittsburgh Steelers Sign a QB In Free Agency Or Draft One?
The Pittsburgh Steelers have a solid roster but a huge question at quarterback. The team is open for Aaron Rodgers returning for another season this upcoming season, but the question is- does he want to return back?
If he does, it will be Rodgers leading the Steelers under center this season. If he doesn’t return, it seems like it will be a battle between second-year quarterback Will Howard and veteran Mason Rudolph.
There’s also the chance that the Steelers could try to sign free agent quarterback Kyler Murray, who is the top quarterback available in free agency. The Steelers could also use one of their many draft picks on a quarterback at any point in the draft.
Who do you think will be the Steelers’ QB for the 2026-2027 season?
