After a relatively successful regular season campaign with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2025, veteran QB Aaron Rodgers showed the NFL how it’s done even after all these years, helping his side qualify for the AFC Wild Card playoffs against the Houston Texans.
However, it didn’t take much for the league to turn against him after a below-par offensive showing against the Texans, which resulted in a blowout 30-6 loss, ending the Pittsburgh-based franchise’s campaign then and there.
After months of speculation surrounding Rodgers’ retirement status, the 42-year-old QB has finally spoken out about what’s next for him in the NFL. After being one of the most sought-after free agents just a few weeks ago, Aaron Rodgers is all set to be back for one final ride with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
After officially re-signing with the Pittsburgh Steelers, the 4x MVP has confirmed that the upcoming 2026 season will be his last in the NFL. In what’s slated to be his 22nd campaign in the NFL, Rodgers in a recent press conference acknowledged how he is all set to hang up his boots after the end of the 2026 season.
“Yes. This is it,” Rodgers said when sked bout his retirement plans.
Rodgers also explained how, despite thinking that his Pittsburgh chapter ended last year, the signing of head coach Mike McCarthy prompted him to come back to the franchise one more time.
“I thought that was probably it for me in Pittsburgh. But when the decision was made to hire Mike, I started opening my mind back up to coming back,” Rodgers stated.
Meanwhile, Pittsburgh head coach Mike McCarthy would like to replicate his past success with Rodgers, having won the Super Bowl together with the Green Bay Packers back in 2010.
How Much Will Aaron Rodgers Earn Returning to the Pittsburgh Steelers?
After announcing his return to Pittsburgh, this is the second consecutive year that Aaron Rodgers has inked a one-year deal with the franchise. ESPN reports that the veteran QB is all set to earn a staggering base salary of $22 million to $23 million with a $25 million incentive component, a steep rise from his previous $13.5 million deal.
Heading into his 22nd NFL season, Rodgers would like to add to his already stupendous league figures, which include a total of 123 touchdowns while also throwing for 66,274 yards.
