Abdul Carter keeps his eye on more than just football. The young New York Giants pass rusher had thoughts on the NBA free agency, specifically the biggest news concerning LeBron James. The Lakers star is set to switch teams this offseason, which has opened up the bidding war for his services.
Many have predicted that he would join the Golden State Warriors. However, while those predictions are zigging, Carter’s prediction zagged. The pass rusher predicted James to go to the Philadelphia 76ers in a post on X on Wednesday.
“Bron going to the 6ers🤫,” he posted.
James averaged 20.9 points per game in 2025 in a decline that has continued for the last four seasons. Still, as one of the most accomplished basketball players of all time, most agree James can still deliver heading into an age 42 season.
Why Abdul Carter Wants Philadelphia to land LeBron James
Abdul Carter, a member of the New York Giants, is a rival of Philadelphia and the city’s Philadelphia Eagles. As such, his prediction for the rival team to get the basketball star raised eyebrows. However, one practical explanation might make sense for Carter.
Carter has reason to hope the 76ers enjoy the addition of James and go on a run in the 2026 NBA season. If so, fans will be more likely to fill up the basketball stadiums in Philadelphia instead of Lincoln Financial Field. If the Eagles’ home-field advantage isn’t as robust due to no-shows or more seats are open for Giants fans to fill, it will make things easier on the Giants and, by extension, Carter.
For it to work, Carter won’t be able to confirm his intention until after the fact.
One other explanation exists and is much more likely, however. Carter was born in Philadelphia, so he has reason to remain invested in the city in ways other than football. The 76ers would be one such option. As a player who plays in New York, Carter could conveniently visit the city in a half-day’s travel to watch James play.
Will Carter get his wish?
