Insider Calls Brendan Sorsby ‘Most High-Profile Prospect’ in 2026 Supplemental Draft After Texas Tech Exit

Brendan Sorsby and the Texas Tech Red Raiders have now parted ways after a long-running controversy surrounding alleged gambling violations.

While Sorsby did obtain an injunction against his NCAA ban, many analysts and coaches expressed frustration with the decision.

Sorsby is expected to enter the 2026 supplemental draft, and according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, he is going to be one of the most high-profile players available.

“Sorsby is going to be the most high-profile supplemental draft prospect since, God, I don’t even know, three decades, something like that,” Rapoport said on ‘The Pat McAfee Show’ on Friday. “I mean, Josh Gordon was probably the most notable, but this is even more high-profile than that. And so, I mean, it’s (NFL Commissioner Roger) Goodell deciding. It’s the NFL’s management council deciding. And there’s a lot that goes into it because he’s incredibly talented.

“I talked to seven general managers to gain an understanding of where the talent is. They believe universally first-round talent may not get a first-round pick, but first-round talent. And you’re probably looking at second or maybe even third-round supplemental pick if he is eligible to even be in it, like if they’re even going to have one, and we’ll find that out next week.”

Paul Finebaum Advises Browns to Make Brendan Sorsby Move

Many analysts have linked the Cleveland Browns to Brendan Sorsby in the 2026 supplemental draft.

The Browns currently have Deshaun Watson and Shedeur Sanders competing for the starting quarterback position. However, many observers believe neither is the long-term answer to the franchise’s issues.

Talking about the Browns ideally picking Sorsby as another quarterback on their roster, veteran journalist Paul Finebaum told ESPN Cleveland radio:

“Frankly, looking at the QB roster of the Cleveland Browns, there is not much to lose at this point. I don’t know much about Brendan Sorsby. I think he can play, but what he did was stupid. I think it can be explained away properly, and I trust the Haslam group to have several top-flight PR mavens.”

Finebaum added that he believes there is someone from the Browns who can shape Sorsby’s story.
