“Cringe Levels Are Off The Charts”: NFL World Reacts To Fernando Mendoza’s Viral First Interaction With Tom Brady

It’s been nearly two months since Fernando Mendoza officially became a quarterback for the Las Vegas Raiders. Tom Brady owns a 5% stake in the franchise and is the most popular name attached to the team’s ownership.

Mendoza recently met with the Raiders for the first time at the combine. While he shook hands with everyone available, Brady was on FaceTime to welcome the 2026 No. 1 draft pick to his new home.

The interaction between them went viral and didn’t sit well with some fans, as they labelled it “cringe.”

“What’s up, Mr. Brady? How are you doing?” Mendoza said to Brady. The NFL legend asked the young quarterback to call him by his name, as “Mr. Brady” is usually associated with his father.

It was a lighthearted conversation, but fans on the internet had mixed reactions to it.

“Calling Tom Brady ‘Mr. Brady’ to his face? Mendoza is trying so hard to be the ‘respectful rookie’ it’s actually painful to watch. The cringe levels are off the charts,” a fan wrote.

“Over/under on years until he meets him in person?” a fan wrote.

“‘What’s up, Mr. Brady?’ is the perfect combine opener. Respectful, terrified, and one syllable away from asking him to sign a football,” a fan wrote.

Some fans saw it as a rookie being respectful toward arguably the greatest quarterback of all time and a minority owner of the franchise.

“He seems down to earth and grounded hope he stays strong . It’s refreshing to see,” a fan wrote.

“future raiders qb meeting the legend. brady probably smiling ear to ear after that,” a fan wrote.

Brady wished him luck and said that he should keep being himself because he has done great things so far in his career.

Tom Brady is Guiding Fernando Mendoza

Tom Brady is the most qualified person to guide and mentor a young quarterback who wants to be great in this sport. Being a part of the Raiders franchise, Mendoza is now able to build a relationship with the NFL legend.

As per Front Office Sports, Mendoza recently talked about how his relationship with Brady is actively growing, and he is getting invaluable advice from him.

“Our relationships growing, asking him more questions, and he’s been able to give firsthand a lot of advice that has happened in his career,” he said. “And also advice when he’s come out to OTAs, seeing the way I play, that firsthand advice as well.”

Mendoza is coming off a great season with the Indiana Hoosiers, where he won the national title, the offensive MVP, and the Heisman Trophy. He might be what the Raiders needed to get back on track.
