Jaxson Dart and Abdul Carter were embroiled in a major controversy after the New York Giants quarterback introduced President Donald Trump at a political rally on May 22.
Carter seemingly didn’t like Dart’s gesture and dropped a blunt message on X shortly after the pictures went viral. Carter wrote that he initially thought the pictures of Dart and Trump were AI and then wrote, “What we doing man?”
The linebacker’s public callout of his quarterback sparked speculation about possible friction between the players.
Former Heisman Trophy winner Cam Newton spoke about how the situation might divide the Giants locker room and offered his thoughts on how players should handle such scenarios during Thursday’s edition of his “4th&1” show on YouTube.
“I had the opportunity to play with former veterans, right?” Newton said. “I had the opportunity to play with people that felt a strong way in regards to oppression with police brutality. The thing about being an adult is having uncomfortable conversations, and at the minimum or at worst, you’re able to agree to disagree. I don’t have to agree with you, but I just would love to see where you stand.
“I want you to empathize so I can empathize with you. Let me tell you why I find that offensive, right? Because what makes you bleed may not make me bleed. Yeah. And at the end, we’re able to come with a better understanding for where each person stands. When you’re posting something for the public, the public now can judge you on that same thing.”
Newton added that the conversation between Dart and Carter should have stayed private.
Carter later tweeted on X that he and Dart had spoken “as men” and resolved their differences. He also deleted his initial tweet. Meanwhile, Dart reportedly held a closed-door meeting with his teammates on Wednesday, where the players “worked through” their issues.
Donald Trump Defends Jaxson Dart After Backlash Over Rally Introduction
Jaxson Dart has also received a lot of flak from fans and analysts after he introduced Donald Trump at a campaign rally in Suffern, New York.
Defending the Giants quarterback, Trump recently said in an interview that while Dart might get harassed, there is also another side to the situation.
“When Jaxson gets harassed a little bit, he’s also loved more, because we have more people than they do,” Trump said on Thursday.
Trump further shared that Dart is a conservative guy and that the Giants quarterback also told him he loves him.
The president also gave Dart a flattering compliment during the Fox interview, saying he wished he looked like the Giants quarterback, asking if he actually is a male model.
