It’s been over a decade since Johnny Manziel played his last game in the NFL. One of the best college football quarterbacks and the 2012 Heisman Trophy winner stepped into the spotlight once again on Saturday.
The 33-year-old made his MMA debut against social media personality Bob Menery at the UFC Apex Center in Las Vegas. Manziel walked away with a win over Menery in the first round. However, fans aren’t quite impressed by his performance.
The fight was promoted by Kick streamer Adin Ross’ Brand Risk Promotions. The company is known for organizing combat sports events among celebrities and social media influencers, so it was never meant to be a professional MMA fight.
Despite Manziel’s impressive performance against Menery, fans didn’t have great things to say about the fight.
“Lmaooo this is one of the worst fights I ever seen,” a fan wrote.
“I would pay money to block all of this influencer mma bulls**t forever,” a fan wrote.
“I’m glad I turned it off. These clips are showing how bad this event was. It’s just a clown show. The ref stopping it for pillow punches. What a scam. No way this shot takes off. Adin needed actual amateur fighters, not these washed up re***ds,” a fan wrote.
“Bro Johnny looked like sh*t. Menery is just a giant v*****y. But Johnny acting like he’s tough or can fight is f***ing ridiculous,” a fan wrote.
“If you told me in 2014 that this was Johnny manziel I’ll tell you to STFU,” a fan wrote.
“This whole thing looked like the type of fights you see outside a gas station at 2am while someone yells WORLDSTAR,” a fan wrote.
Safe to say, fans on the internet didn’t like what they saw. However, the event generated a lot of buzz, and Adin Ross will likely continue to do more such events.
Johnny Manziel Might Never Fight Again
A perfect record is a dream of every athlete. Manziel’s NFL career didn’t pan out as expected and was short-lived, but he can potentially hold an undefeated MMA record. The 33-year-old said that one fight was good enough for him.
“This was good enough for one time,” he said after the fight.
Manziel showed some good skills inside the ring. He was able to throw body kicks, close the distance, and even scored a takedown, which is impressive considering the level that he was fighting at.
