How Did the Patriots Lose Super Bowl LX to the Seahawks? A Look Inside Drake Maye and Co.’s Crushing 13-29 Defeat

The Seattle Seahawks defeated the New England Patriots last night for Super Bowl LX 29-13, winning its second Super Bowl title in franchise history.

Seattle played good football from the first to last whistle, and completely shut out the Patriots for the first three quarters. Seattle’s defense, and special teams carried them for the first three quarters with kicker Jason Meyers giving the team a 12-0 lead with four field goals heading into the fourth quarter.

Seahawks running back Kenneth Walker III was unstoppable for most of the night, often extending drives with his legs, finishing the night with 135 rushing yards on 27 carries. Walker III also had 26 receiving yards along the way of being named Super Bowl MVP.

In the fourth quarter, Seattle’s offense came alive, giving them a 19-0 lead as quarterback Sam Darnold tossed a 16-yard touchdown pass to tight end AJ Barner. While the defense showed that they were human, allowing a 35-yard touchdown pass from Drake Maye to Mack Hollins, making the game 197, they responded late in the quarter, putting the icing on the cake as Uchenna Nwosu took a 45-yard pick six to the house, giving the Seahawks a 29-7 lead. This came after a fifth made field goal by Myers.

The Patriots got a late touchdown with 2:21 left in the game as Rhamondre Stevenson caught a touchdown pass from Maye but they were stopped on the two-point try, resulting in a 29-13 victory for the Seahawks, who completely dominated New England for three quarters.

Despite Falling Short of a Super Bowl Title, the Patriots Exceeded Season Expectations

It may not have gone the New England Patriots‘ way last night, but they have no reason to hang their heads down. The Patriots exceeded everyone’s expectations this season.

New England flipped a 4-13 record and last place finish to winning the AFC East title with a 14-3 regular season record. Drake Maye was second in MVP voting, and head coach Mike Vrabel, in his first season as the Pats’ head coach, took home the AP Coach of the Year Award.

The Pats were a team viewed by many prior to the season as a team that ‘could’ flip its season around with a chance of making an improbable run. They did flip its season around and made a run that most wouldn’t have predicted them to be in.

As Maye said after the Pats’ Super Bowl loss, it will only add more fuel to the fire for the team next season.
